The audio recordings suffer a constant degradation depending on diverse parameters: composition of the support, temperature, dampness, exhibition to the light, thermal contrasts, etc. In our laboratory, we treat, repair and adapt the diverse supports of audio how I go on previously to a correct digitalization.
Wax cylinders: the affections that they suffer are diverse; departing that are made by variety of chemical compounds (acetates, waxes, etc.) the chemical degradation is a constant harassed by the inadequate temperature of storage, dampness, pollution by fungi, oxidations (p.e. in the Columbia), eccentricities, damages in the plaster of paris, etc.

The called shellacs: we must have present that exists neither a material only one, nor form of manufacture, from the discs of carton, metal, lacquers, etc. They suffer numerous degradations that they need to be treated before; breaks, palmitic acid, raising of the cap on the discs of nitrate, etc.

The steel wire reels; they suffer from snarl of the magnetic thread, oxidations, breaks of the spool, etc.
The reels of tape recorder contain innumerable problems, many of them are not perceptible to the first sight, how the acquaintance like sticky syndrome. The most common affections depend on the material of the base or the composition of the binder (paper, diacetate, polyethylene tereftalat, etc.); syndrome of the vinegar, failure in the adesión binder base, pollution by fungi, breaks of the spool, edge frills, etc. The incorrect manipulation or the use of inappropriate machines generate also hurts in the same ones.

The syndrome of vinegar is one of the worst affections of the tapes of composition of cellulose acetate, from the degree 3, they turn out to be damaged in irreversible form. Affected with the sicking shed syndrome they are submitted to heat treatments in special ovens.
